Assignment
This Master's Thesis is a proof of concept demonstrating how students' lack a space within the dorms that facilitates ideal academic collaboration.
It shows how students look else ware for this type of environment and how the university could potentially create spaces for students to use as academic collaboration environments that students may even identify as a "third place."
Design Focus
1. The types of students’ study modes and what those modes require to achieve successful academic collaboration.
2. The spaces offered to students as academic collaboration environments and what attributes are needed to facilitate "third space" academic collaboration.
Solution
sp[A.C.E] offers tangible data on how students’ study habits transform into different collaborative forms and how study environments do not suite students’ studying needs.
Through User Experience Research, Alpha Beta Methods, Activity Theory, and Ethnographic Research, different study personas and modes are established proving that the archaic library no longer fulfills students’ studying needs.
sp[A.C.E.] offers the idea of a combined application and service, allowing students to use their study modes to generate the perfect study environment, as a possible solution to answer this problem. (Further research needs to be conducted on how the product looks and works.)
